Important Information
Travel Notes
Direct flights from Colombo to Malé (MLE) are frequent, and Hulhumale is only a 15-minute drive or speedboat transfer from the airport, making it one of the most accessible islands in the Maldives. While resorts across the Maldives often require seaplanes or domestic flights, Hulhumale offers a hassle-free arrival.
The official currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), but US Dollars are widely accepted, particularly in hotels, restaurants, and for excursions. Credit cards are also commonly used.
As Hulhumale is a local island, modest dress is expected when away from the beach and guesthouse areas. Swimwear is acceptable at designated beach zones. Note that alcohol is not served on local islands; it is available only in resorts and safari boats.
Electricity runs at 230V with UK-style three-pin plugs (Type G), so travelers from Sri Lanka can use their devices without adaptors.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover medical emergencies, flight delays, cancellations, or lost luggage during your holiday.
Visa & Passport
Sri Lankan passport holders do not require a pre-arranged visa—a 30-day free visa is issued on arrival. Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond travel dates.
Other nationalities also generally receive a visa on arrival, but it’s best to confirm with local Maldivian embassies before traveling. Immigration officers may request proof of accommodation booking and sufficient funds for your stay.
